Download PanelMapper

PanelMapper is a mobile application to easily design, label, save and print residential electrical panel layouts. More than just a "design tool", PanelMapper maintains a database of panels that can be re-loaded and edited - the number of panels is restricted only by the available storage space - and the database is quite compact.

First Run:
When first opened, PanelMapper presenrts the user with a blank electrical panel (the display is locked to landscape orientation). Pressing "Add/Edit Panel" opens a window requesting information for the new panel. Provide a panel description (required) for the new panel (address, home owner, etc.), manufacturer (optional, but recommended), breaker spaces (the total number of breakers spaces in the panel, max 80 - required), Service Amperage (required), build date (optional, but recommended), and main breaker position (default is "Top", but user can select bottom, or none (in the case of a sub-panel)). Clicking "Save" closes the information window and generates the "panel" in the preview window, filling in the main breaker amperage, and "blanks" for the numbered breaker spaces - along with numbered identifiers and blank spaces for breaker descriptions.

Populating The Panel - Breakers:
Once a "blank" panel is created, users can then begin populating the panel with breakers and descriptions. To add a breaker, touch a breaker from the breaker library in the lower left of the screen. The breaker library is divided into 3 sections that can be selected by touching the tap near the top of the library - double-breakers, single-breakers (default), and half breakers. For each section, there are 4 options (at the bottom of the library) for standard breakers (default), ground fault breakers, arc fault breakers, and arc/ground fault combo breakers. Each section has a selection of pre-labeled breakers with a range of amperages, as well as a "custom" breaker where users can input whatever amperage required. The currently selected breaker is displayed just above the library on the right size. Once a breaker is selected, touch a blank breaker space in the preview to place the breaker (to replace a breaker with a blank, select the blank from the Standard Breakers section in the library and click on the breaker to remove). The database is automatically updated when a breaker is placed.

Populating The Panel - Descriptions:
To add a description for a breaker, touch the "masking tape" space next to the breaker number. A window with a scrollable list of descriptions opens. Touching a selection populates the description area with the selected description. For customized descriptions, touch the description area, then touch 'Custom" when the window opens, then type in (or, if voice command is enabled on your device, speak) the description desired. To clear a description, select the description you want to clear, then on the window that appears, touch "Clear".

Exporting / Sharing A Panel:
PanelMapper saves panels in a database that is created when the application is first run. To share a built panel, touch "Export". Touching "Export" opens a new window with export options. This window presents a list of existing panels on the left. Select a panel, then select the export options. Options for exporting the panel include whether the exported document should display an image of the breaker (an option to omit the breaker image can be useful when the circuit descriptions are long), and whether to generate a full-page version, or a split, 2-up version (useful if the end result is 5x7 printed decals of the layout) .There are 2 formats that can be selected - PDF or JPG. Selecting PDF generates a PDF that can then be saved to the device's Files folder, iCloud (if enabled on the device), or shared via e-mail, messages, etc. Selecting JPG saves a JPG image of the panel to the devices Photos collection.
